The art of the mandala — first journey
A selection of twelve paintings to enter Claire Duval's work as one would enter a book, page by page.
Chapter 1
First circle
A mandala begins with a circle. Before colour, before motif, there is the circumference that defines the space of meditation.
Chapter 2
Water and light
Painting on wood has a particular quality: the surface lets itself be irrigated. Blues become water, whites become light, and the work vibrates like a liquid surface.
Chapter 3
The centre
At the heart of each painting, a point. Sometimes round, sometimes a star, sometimes simply absent. This emptiness is not absence: it is the invitation made to the eye to settle.
